PatentRef Processors and Data Processing Agreements
Effective: 2026-11-09. Version: beta-4. Part of the Privacy Policy at patentref.io/docs/legal/privacy (section 3). Controller: Aaron Baker, Tucson, Arizona, United States.
This register lists every provider that processes personal data for the PatentRef service, what it processes, where, under which data processing agreement, and on what basis personal data of people in the EU, the UK or Switzerland reaches it. A provider is added here before it receives personal data. The last line of each entry says how its agreement took effect for the PatentRef account; "pending" means it still has to be concluded.
Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany)
- Role: hosting. The server that runs the API, the account database, the waitlist, the request logs and the snapshots (Helsinki, Finland), and the off-box copy of the nightly backups on a Hetzner Storage Box, sent there over SSH and not encrypted by us.
- Personal data: account email, user id, key records, request log rows (time, key prefix, path, status, client IP address), web server access logs, waitlist addresses with their choices and dates; the backups hold the same.
